SIMPLY RED - SUMMER FUNK '27

Friday 20th August 2027

Singleton Park

Special Guests Lisa Stansfield, Heather Small

Simply Red are back on the road. After a year away from the spotlight, Mick Hucknall and the band return in 2027 with Summer Funk '27 — a UK and European headline tour built as a proper summer spectacle, calling at some of the continent's most extraordinary settings. The Welsh leg lands at Swansea's Singleton Park on Friday 20 August.

This is a tour made for long, sun-soaked evenings. Across the summer it winds through historic wonders and breathtaking natural backdrops — the ancient Anfiteatro agli Scavi in Pompeii, the Roman arena at Pula, the open-air greenery of Germany's Sauerland Park — alongside landmark UK dates including a first-ever show at London's Gunnersbury Park and Halifax's magnificent Piece Hall. Singleton Park takes its place among some of the most beautiful stages in Europe.

At the heart of it is Hucknall's timeless blue-eyed soul voice — still soaring, as the Mail on Sunday put it — leading a band on formidable form: Ian Kirkham (sax), Kenji Suzuki (guitar), Kevin Robinson (trumpet), Roman Roth (drums), Gary Sanctuary (keys) and Orefo Orakwue (bass). Expect a high-energy, celebratory set — "raucous," in the words of The Times — stacked with the hits: the rush of Fairground, the funk of Something Got Me Started, the soul of Money's Too Tight (To Mention), drawn from a catalogue spanning more than four decades.

"You can expect a set full of Simply Red upbeat hits to get you on your feet having fun in the sun with friends and family," says Mick Hucknall.

Summer Funk '27 is the band's first tour since their sold-out 2025 40th anniversary run — nearly 50 shows across the UK, Europe and Latin America that sparked a full critical reappraisal. And the numbers speak for themselves: five number one albums, a number one single, nine further UK Top 10 hits, three BRIT Awards, two Ivor Novellos and a MOBO for Outstanding Achievement, with 1991's Stars the best-selling album in Britain and Europe two years running.

For the Swansea show, Simply Red are joined by two more of British music's most distinctive voices: Lisa Stansfield and Heather Small.

One of the great live bands of the last forty years, on one of the summer's most spectacular tours — and Swansea is on the map.
